1.1. UK acid rain emission
The graph below shows UK acid rain emissions, measured in millions of tones, from four different sectors between 1990 and 2007.
A glance at the line graph above indicates some comparisons in the amount of acid rain emissions which were produced from four different sectors over a period of 17 years in the UK.
It is evidence that total the amount of emissions caused by acid rain in the UK between 1991 and 2007 dropped dramatically. The highest decrease was seen in electricity, gas and water supply.
In 1991, around 3.3 million tons of acid rain emissions came from electricity, gas and water supply. The figure of domestic sector was around one fifth that amount, at 0.6 million tons while transport and communication contributed 0.7 million tons of acid rain. Just over 2 million tons of acid rain gases came from other industries.
In the year 2007, emissions from electricity, gas and water supply fell significantly 2.8 million tons, stood at 0.5 million. Sharing the same trend, both figures of acid gases from home and other industries sectors had gradually dropped, reached at 0.2 million tons and 1.5 million tons respectively. It is obvious that in 2005 the number of acid rain gases from transport and communication sector had slightly increased, peaked at 1 million but then fell off to 0.7 million approximately.
