CHAPTER XXIII — ATTEMPTS TO COMMIT OFFENCES

Attempting (where no express provision is made by the Penal Code or by other written law) to commit offences punishable with imprisonment or fine or with a combination of such punishments (other than imprisonment for life), and in such attempt doing any act towards the commission of the offence

According as to whether the offence is one in respect of which the police may arrest without warrant or not

According as to whether the offence is one in respect of which a summons or warrant shall ordinarily issue

According as to whether the offence contemplated by the offender is bailable or not

Compoundable when the offence attempted is compoundable

The punishment provided for the offence, provided that any term of imprisonment shall not exceed one-half of the longest term provided for the offence

The court by which the offence attempted is triable

If the attempted offence is punishable with imprisonment for life
