Patriots' Day on the third Monday of April commemorates the battles of Lexington and Concord taking place near Boston in 1775. Do you confuse this day with Patriot Day? Of course, two days are different from other because Patriot Day is celebrated on September 11th to mark the anniversary of the terrorist attacks in the United States in 2001.
History of Patriots' Day
Prior to 1775, the area is now the eastern part of the United States consisted mainly of British colonies controlled by Great Britain. The American Revolutionary War, also known as the American War of Independence, was an important step in achieving the independence of the United States. The first battles of this war took place in the Lexington and Concord areas, near Boston, Massachusetts, on April 19, 1775. For this reason, the third Monday in April is symbolic for the country's emerging independence.
Paul Revere is among the patriots commemorated on Patriots' Day. There was information spreading about the Boston Tea Party to New York and Philadelphia, as well as warning the Lexington Minutemen of the British invasion in 1775. The story of the "midnight" trip to Lexington to discuss a plan of action against the British has poetized.
A bill amending the Tennessee Code regarding Patriots' Day went into effect in 2008. The state's code now officially includes the holiday and refers to the state's governor declaring the 19th of May. The 4th of every year is Patriots' Day.
Public life
In Massachusetts and Maine, Patriots' Day is a public holiday where all people are off working including state, county, and city offices. However, Patriots' Day is not a federal holiday and federal offices are open. Many schools are closed for spring break. Stores and other businesses and institutions may open or close according to local custom. Most public transit services run on reduced schedules, but may not operate in rural areas. There may be some local disruption to traffic around sporting and recurring events, particularly in Boston.
How to celebrate Patriots' Day
In the states of Massachusetts and Maine, the third Monday in April is a day off for all people from at work to school. In the area around Lexington and Concord, reenactments of the battles of 1775 and the events leading up to them are held. A special thing that is loved by most people was the opportunity to ring bells to alarm the local troops about approaching British troops. There are a lot of lectures, concerts and road races.
In Wisconsin, April 19th is a special school holiday. On Patriots' Day, students are learned about the events and people centered on Patriots' Day. We recommend that observations be held on the actual date, although they are usually moved to Friday, April 18th, if April 19th is a Saturday, and to Monday, April 20th, if April 19th falls on a Sunday.
