The wrong diskette is in the drive Reddit

Question, how do you know there is no disc damage? Did you check it with a software application?

Drives, even fairly new ones, can still come out faulty at times. That's true for any computer part. I would play it safe and try installing on a different hard drive. If the issue continues then there may be bigger problems with the cabling or the motherboard.

Regardless. I would not keep trying to reinstall it again on the same drive. That is possibly making things worse.

So my grandmother's computer, which is really quite old, has suddenly stopped working. When it boots up, it comes to an error screen that says "A Disk Read Error occurred. Press Ctl-Alt-Delete to restart."

Pressing Ctl-Alt-Delete does nothing but restart the computer and bring it back to the same error screen. I'm pretty lost here.

The computer is a Dell Dimension 2400 with Intel Pentium 4 processor that's gotta be like 7 years old. Runs on Windows XP Home. If you need any additional information I'll do my best to get it.

Thanks in advance.

Unplug your second drive

Partition the first drive

Install windows onto the new partition

When it reboots, you should see 2 installs of windows like its been dual booted boot to the second one

When it boots up, search for msconfig

Delete the first install

Done

Hello,

I'm having a problem with my computer currently, It started a couple of days ago. It suddenly started saying that there are problems with certain files and I had to perform chkdsk stuff. So I did as it said, and it said I couldn't perform the chkdsk completely in read only mode. so do it on start up. So I did that and it doesn't completely do the check it would seem. it goes up to 37%ish of step 2 and then skips the rest and loads up the computer without finishing all 5 stages of the check. So I scanned my entire computer throughly for virus' etc and nothing. So I scanned just the prefetch folder as that's where the files with the problems are. I couldn't find a problem there. I googled and it said to try and put my computer into safe mode and run the chkdsk but my computer won't even go into safe mode. It gets suck loading the system 32 files when trying to load into safe mode. Also I don't know if it's related or not but the computer won't defrag at all. I'm completely at a loss as to how to fix it. I'm no techy at all so I'd really appreciate any help.

Many thanks.

I know I should have just stopped after the disk got cleaned that I should have used the internet to fix it. But sleepy me thought different and just went on to disk management, created a new volume, and formatted it. By then it was too late.

I saw that if it was just a clean with diskpart that you can recover the partition with dmde. In my case, I've gone one step further and created a new simple volume over it. Is it possible to recover the lost partition and the data?

I would be so glad and grateful if there was actually any way of getting it back.

Inserted a 128gb SanDisk Extreme SD Card into my pc and attempted to import two video files about 3gb in size each. Halfway through I received the following error "Error 0x80070022 The wrong diskette is in the drive. Insert %2 [Volume Serial Number. %3] into drive %1" Safely ejected the SD and tried to import again, but got the same error. Any idea how to resolve this error? Thanks in advance!

I recently reformatted my HP Pavilion dv6 laptop[Speccy ^^Screenshot] and have ran into these two issues. I'm not sure if they could possibly be related or not.

First off, during installation and every subsequent boot I receive the following error.

cmd.exe - No Disk

There is no disk in the drive. Please insert a disk into drive \Device\Harddisk1\DR1.

What I've already tried:

I've Googled the error and read many results including this Microsoft support page. It says it's for another version of Windows but I checked anyway and C is my main hard disk and not any other removable storage. I've also reformatted again without ever inserting any removable storage so I can't imagine this could be the cause.

I also came across Yahoo Answers question where a user by the name of Scrawny mentioned that it could be an issue with installing from USB. I've installed from USB before with no issues but I figured it was worth a try so I reformatted again this time from DVD and the issue persisted.

Secondly, there is an issue of my brightness not changing. Note that this is not a matter of it not changing using function keys as most of the Google results are, but a matter of it not changing even through Power Options from the Control Panel. At first I didn't think it was changing at all but I now realize that it will once restarted or returning from sleep mode but it used to be instant.

I've reformatted many times in the past and have never run into these issues. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I need to have this in working order by next week when I return to classes.

Sorry if I went overboard with formatting.
