NOTES:

Yale Psych drama and current state of the program
Hello, There has been yale PD drama that has been making waves. Psychiatry residents voice concern over new program director If there are any residents or those affiliated with the program willing to comment, can we get some insight into any resident concerns with the program? Do you feel supported at Yale? Is the training actually strong? What is the program culture like? Are residents cohesive? What are the attendings like? Thank you! (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Questions for pediatric residents at Yale-New Haven pediatric program
I've been really interested in pediatric dentistry for a little while now, namely, working on patients with disabilities. Can anyone shed some light on the program and some of the qualities they are looking for in an applicant? Any insight would be appreciated. (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Programs I SHOULD apply to
So read the post about radiation oncology “hellpits” and found it quite informative. But now, I ask the opposite question: which programs should a US MD actually apply/aim for? This thread: Rad onc rankings Do I dare add my rankings to the hallowed list? Apparently yes, but please be gentle if you don't agree. This is my list of what I think the "top" programs are, from the perspective of someone interested in academics. Someone just reminded me of this discussion. Nice list -- for academics... ...

Psychotherapy-heavy residencies
Before I start, I know there's debate on the utility of psychotherapy in psychiatry. Maybe y'all will say I should have been a PsyD. That's not the focus of what I'm asking. I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations on residency programs that are very heavy on psychotherapy that are not research powerhouses (ex. Harvard programs, Yale, NYU, NYP etc). That caveat's important to me because I don't go to a powerhouse medical school that attracts these programs. Specific things... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Transferring to Yale's Medical school
I (MS1) am attending a state medical school and I noticed that my school has low (and lower quality) match rates for ophthalmology compared to Yale. I am fairly set on ophthalmology and have been doing research in the field for years now. Are research opportunities and residency match good enough reasons for Yale to accept me as a transfer student? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Are medical school admissions allowed to discriminate against people with disabilities?
I am referring to the "technical standards" imposed by all medical schools, but specifically this document from Yale and this paragraph: "In assessing applicants for admission, it is also appropriate to consider the applicant's current physical and emotional status, cumulative and progressive disability, and drug-induced impairments that may pose obstacles to the safe application of the student's knowledge and skills or prevent effective interaction with patients. Applicants will be... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Do people struggle financially in Residency?
A resident made a tweet earlier saying that she was living paycheck to paycheck despite her bachelors from Yale and her MD from Harvard (nice humble brag ). It got me wondering though. How common is it for residents to be struggling financially once in residency? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Mount Sinai vs UC San Diego vs Yale MSTP
Currently accepted to the Mount Sinai MSTP off the waitlist, but I am still waitlisted at both UC San Diego & Yale MSTPs. I am struggling to decide whether I should stay on these waitlists or withdraw. I am very strongly interested in doing a PhD in computational/cognitive neuroscience work and have an abundance of labs I am interested in all 3 programs. I am very strongly interested in doing Neurosurgery for residency, but I am also considering doing psychiatry or neurology. I am from... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)

Duke vs. Yale
Hello everyone, just got off Duke's waitlist and I would appreciate any advice you have. Cost is equivalent between the two schools. Duke: + Hospital seems slightly better regarded, both in terms of opportunities and clinical training + Dedicated research year + Home residency programs in most specialties seem to be higher regarded + P/F clinicals and no AOA as of last year + More structure in curriculum - would this help for Step 2? + New area of the country, personal growth + Could... Critical care EEG fellowship?
I recently learned about this fellowship being offered at some places like Yale and Pitt. Could anyone tell me how this works in terms of the job opportunities available post fellowship (academic and private)? Is this usually combined with either a NeuroICU fellowship and/or epilepsy, or is it a standalone fellowship? (Source: Student Doctor Network)

CCLCM VS Hopkins VS Yale
Longtime lurker here. Really just want to hear some extra perspectives before I made this decision in the next couple of days. Originally it was Hopkins VS Yale for me, but I got off the WL at CCLCM last week, so they are obviously my cheapest option. Hopkins and Yale both gave me **** aid but are fairly comparable in COA. About me: I'm coming out of undergrad from the South and have always had more of a research background. I'm hoping to get involved in a lot of research in med school but... Yale vs Columbia
Hi everyone! You’re fine to quote - I want to leave this up because past threads have been incredibly useful to me so far and I think from talking to people at all of these second looks dozens of people are making this exact decision lol. I really appreciate any insight - I thought this decision would get easier but it has not. I also have the option of my state school as of today (really cutting it down to the wire here) but I think it’s going to come down to these powerhouses. Columbia... Penn vs. Hopkins vs. Yale
Thanks all in advance for your input. I'm having a decently tough time deciding between these 3 schools. All schools are basically the same cost (no aid/scholarships). I have a global/public health background and am interested in that and health policy (and clinical research). Right now, I'm leaning towards IM as a specialty and maybe a global/public health career. I know this is way too early but due to personal reasons/connections, I kind of want to match to one of the HMS programs (maybe... Read more (Source: Student Doctor Network)
