Lenovo's Ideapad [Yoga] Slim 7 is a good Windows laptop, and it gets more things right than it doesn't. It packs a powerful, almost desktop-class processor, and a decent build quality and a less-than-stellar display. More than anything, it's proof that going forward, we might see laptops without any compromises in the power department to go against budget PCs.

Lenovo once again gives us a masterclass on how to make a world-class laptop for under a grand. There's very little reason to spend any more unless you need an ultra-high-resolution screen.

This is an awesome laptop. Aside from the excellent Ryzen performance, it also has lovely Dolby Atmos speakers, and more importantly, an excellent keyboard that adds to the pleasure of using the IdeaPad Slim 7. If you want to check it out on Lenovo.com, you can find it here.

Lenovo and AMD, where do you get off making a laptop this awesome and not making it available everywhere? Are my fellow U.S. laptop lovers and I going to really have to import this from Europe? Im jealous! For $1,197, I could get a fairly lightweight, thin powerhouse that puts the competition to shame with its powerful AMD Ryzen 7 CPU and GPU. Also, I could move from room to room of my house without worrying about charging thanks to a whopping 17 hours and 21 minutes of battery life. Or at least I could if this laptop was available in the U.S. Why do you folks hate joy?

Lisa Gade reviews the Lenovo IdeaPad Slim 7, a 14 Ultrabook with a premium design and a relatively nice price of $899. In some countries, its is called the Yoga Slim 7. We look at the AMD Ryzen 7 model with 8 cores and phenomenal performance for 14.9mm Ultrabook. Lenovo currently lists the laptop with the Ryzen 7 4700U, Radeon graphics, 8GB DDR4 4266MHz RAM and a 512GB SSD on their site, but we have a slightly higher end version with the Ryzen 7 4800U and 16GB RAM. The laptop has a pleasing full HD display, aluminum casing, Windows Hello IR camera with presence detection, a white backlit keyboard, Wi-Fi 6 and a 720p webcam. Lenovo also offers an Intel version that starts at $1,050.

When Intel unwraps its 11th-gen Tiger Lake CPUs next week, well witness an epic battle for the soul of thin and light laptops unlike any we have ever seen before. Our earlier prediction that Tiger Lake will lose against Ryzen 4000 in multi-threaded tasks stays the same. Well, kind of. After seeing the Ryzen 7 4800Us results, we actually think itll be a total blowout in multi-threaded performance now. Graphics, however, might just be closer than we expected. And one area Tiger Lake is likely to win big is single-threaded performance, which is actually probably more important for most of what it is done in a small laptop.

Above all, this display size is used for subnotebooks, ultrabooks and convertibles. For all three types, this size is quite large. The biggest variety of subnotebooks is represented with this size.
Large display-sizes allow higher resolutions. So, details like letters are bigger. On the other hand, the power consumption is lower with small screen diagonals and the devices are smaller, more lightweight and cheaper.
