Spotify is making it easier to share your favorite music with your friends and family. The music streaming company is expanding on its efforts to personalize your listening experience with Blend, as part of its Only You feature.

Blend allows friends to discover new music together by blending your music together to create a combined playlist, so you can enjoy each other's favorite tracks [and discover new songs!] in one collated playlist. Here's how to use Spotify's Blend feature...

What Is Spotify's Blend?

Because music forms part of our everyday lives, it's not uncommon to share your favorite music with friends, whether it's playing your friend a song you love or sharing the links to your favorite tracks through a messaging app.

Spotify Blend offers you a better way to do that, essentially allowing you and your friends to collate your musical tastes in a single playlist, thereby creating a personalized, blended playlist you can both share.

This is a part of Spotify's Only You feature, which helps you discover new trends beyond those you may see in your own personalized playlists.

Only You builds on the success of Spotify's yearly Wrapped feature, which gives you a visualization of your listening data at the end of the year. Similar to Wrapped, Only You is an in-app experience with listening statistics and personalized playlists during the year.

Some of the personalized insights that Only You provides include the different eras of music you’ve enjoyed, the music or podcasts you tend to listen to, the times you often listen to those tracks and podcasts, as well as your favorite music genres and podcast topics.

How Blend on Spotify Works

Blend allows you to invite any other Spotify user, like a friend, to create an automatically generated playlist with you—essentially blending their musical tastes with yours to create a curated playlist featuring songs you both enjoy.

Like other playlists on Spotify, Blend is updated daily and will grow with you over time as your listening habits evolve. You can also see how the playlist has been influenced by your friend by tapping on their profile icon next to each track.

Blend can be found under Made for Two within the Only You hub. It is available on both Premium and Free accounts on iOS and Android devices.

How to Create a Spotify Blend Playlist With a Friend

Blend allows you to collaborate with friends to create playlists with music you all like. Creating a Blend playlist is easy. Simply follow the steps below to get started.

You'll first need to ensure you have the latest version of the Spotify app on your iOS or Android device. To update the app, find it in the App Store or on Google Play, then tap Update.

Here's how to create a Blend playlist with a friend:

  1. Open the Spotify app.
  2. Tap Search, then scroll down and tap Only You or Made For You under Browse all. This will show you your personalized playlists based on your listening history.
  3. Scroll down to Made for two, and tap the green square with a plus icon [+] and the words Create a blend written under it.
  4. You will now be prompted to Invite a friend. Tap Invite.
  5. Now choose a friend to invite, either from your recent contacts or via your social media apps.

That's it! You can now discover and enjoy music with your chosen friend, all in one place.

Keep in mind that Blend only allows two people per playlist: you and your friend. To collaborate with more friends, you'll have to create a separate Blend for each friend.

Blend Could Help to Expand Spotify’s Userbase

Spotify continues to press on in its mission to lead the music streaming market when it comes to personalization. The Blend feature is a great tool for Spotify users as it further enhances their in-app experiences. But it could also help Spotify grow its userbase.

Because Blend works with free accounts, it could encourage more users to try Spotify so they can create a playlist with the friends who invite them. These users could then go on to create their own own Blend playlists and invite more friends to collaborate with.
