Audience Reviews for The Blacklist: Season 8
- Nov 21, 2021It had a lot of potential, but the entire show is centered around a petty, backstabbing, whiny, self-centered, bipolar loyalty, pathetic, incompetent agent, Keen. The fact that everyone around her kisses her butt and tells her she's awesome attempting to justify her exceedingly crappy/illegal behavior, doesn't mean the audience is stupid enough to believe it. Her entire profession as a "profiler" is just a pathetic trope to have a reason for her being there and is never really used at all. She is more of a villain than the role Reddington plays. She's never out for justice so much as as her own, ever changing vendetta of the moment. Should have left her killed off. Maybe this is a sign her character writing should have been left to a female, with profiling knowledge and law enforcement... of any kind? Dembe, Brimley, Aram, Reddington, Harold, Mr. Kaplan, Glen, Samar..., give such richness to the story and are the only reason that I give any rating at all to the -12 that I think of Keen as a main character.Crystal C
- Nov 09, 2021The show writers failed to let anyone sympathize with the ungrateful unstable Elizabeth, in addition to the low force team who suddenly are acting like idiots, helping and protecting Liz while she's committing crimes., The whole season was a big disappointment.Amro L
- Nov 08, 2021Other than the last part of the last episode, this season was pretty bad all around.Andrew J
- Oct 17, 2021I was a huge fan of the show up until the Pandemic. They didn't [IMO] handle lockdown/pandemic shows well, at all. The whole break the 4th wall and cartoon episode nearly made me shut it off then. I'd rather they just stop production and come back later than feed us that terrible nonsense. By ep 3 of Season 8, I'm ready to hang it up. No spoilers, but Keens actions in that episode have completely turned me off the character. I only marginally liked Elizabeth Keen. I watched for Reddington, the Most Interesting Man in the World [James Spader, who is an absolutely phenomenal actor], not her. And though Megan Boone is a fair actress, the Character of Keen turned me off. Now, she's gone completely off the rails. And the show with her. The premise of the show has been left in the dirt for Keen's constant angst over her parents, their past, her past, and some half-baked mystery about her mother I don't care about. The show was about catching criminals in the underground, criminals who were extremely dangerous working behind the scenes and destroying the world. Now, it's all about Elizabeth Keen and her past family drama and looking for answers to the mystery. And I just don't care. Reading spoilers for season 9 should have reinvigorated my interest [at least I don't have to hear about her drama anymore, right?] but at this point, the show is so off the mark of the original premise, I find myself not caring enough to continue. This isn't the fault of Spader. Spader is a god. The writers failed us on this show. They wandered off in some ADHD fantasy land where they actually thought the audience was interested in relatively unknown, fair to middling actress portraying a wishy-washy, weak, uninteresting character, instead of focusing on the over-all crime solving, FBI procedures, and Spader, the character of Reddington, and what he brought to the table. The entire Keen/Reddington relationship should have been handled in 1-Season; Reddington Should have been revealed as her Father; Keen should have stayed loyal to Him, and their relationship instead of going off into some wildly illogical revenge morass for a mother who who was a sociopath and never cared about her, and wrapped it up. If they had done that, it would not only have kept my interest, but I would have respected the character of Keen and rooted for her continuation. This was just ridiculous. I won't be sticking around for Season 9. Not even for Spader. Sorry, James. You're still a god, but not even you can carry writing this bad.Christy S
- Oct 09, 2021What a colossal waste of talent. Worst season of all. Loved the show up till now. Writing around Keen is painful and ridiculous. Came to despise her character and her spoiled and self indulgent race to the bottom. Worse, she just drags everyone else down with her while refusing to take any responsibility for her actions. Very very sad and i am not entertained by such a destructive character development arc that makes no sense.Sadashiva L
- Aug 12, 2021This wasn't a good season, worst one yet in fact. It's worth mentioning the covid-19 restrictions that made everyone's life harder this fall. However, despite repeatedly promising payoff for eight seasons worth of anticipation, what the viewers recieved was in actuality a messy, incoherent, excuse for a finale that not only didn't do them justice but also left its main actress bleeding on the floor still in the dark about her past. For whatever reason, the network decided to reward this "feat" by renewing the show for another season. It is unclear if they intend to retcon the outcome of this finale or simply pander to Spader's fans a little longer, but it is clear that this show has overstayed its welcome.Maya G
- Jul 31, 2021Did something happen behind the scene in this season? Did they change all of the writers? This show has gone downhill drastically. Compared to her costars, Meghan Boone's acting is mediocre at best. In the 8th season where Keen was supposed to be devastated "someone" died in front of her, I felt nothing. No sympathy, no emotions. Nothing due to her underwhelming acting. Aram and Samar's breakup was more emotional than any of Keen's drama. As the series went on, Keen is just not an interesting or likable main protagonist. I do not feel sympathy or even see the logic behind her actions. She keeps whining and complaining about all the people Reddington had killed but the most common reason for the killings were her trying to dig up the past. She contacted people she shouldn't, she kept claiming she knows things when in fact she doesn't. She cries and begs Reddington to tell her his secrets when throughout the series she's proven to not be able to keep a single secret! Reddington should be the main focus of the series. It would be so much better if they kept it about hunting blacklisters as well as unveiling Reddington's secret slowly. Instead they chose to make it all about Keen and her acting like a spoiled brat. Just because she's safe from Reddington's wrath, she's willing to put everyone in the cross hairs. Keen broke so many rules and laws, her partners shouldn't even have any more empathy, sympathy, or care for her left. All she did was betray them over and over again. Showing all of them what a selfish person she is and how nothing matters as long as she gets her way. The writers forcing Ressler and Keen to suddenly have a thing for each other? Absolutely ridiculousJimmy D
- Jul 31, 2021Blacklist season 8 episode 21 completely ruined the series, I hate the way they made this episode. Complete waste of time.Christopher V
- Jul 29, 2021They have completely destroyed this show with the Keen story line. The writing has gotten abysmal. the Keen character is just plain BAD.ralph m
- Jul 28, 2021One viewer review stated precisely my thought as I ground through the dreadful Season 8 - Blacklist jumped the shark on this one. As others have inquired - did the show lose its writers? Someone's "brilliant" notion to turn Elizabeth into a villain has the show hanging on a precipice. I'm a Spader fan - but nearly every other continuing character has turned milquetoast, showing utter incompetence in their ambivalence toward the ruined character, "Agent Keen." The bond between Reddington and Keen was the cornerstone of the show - and whomever made the decision to turn Keen into a master criminal, able to out do Reddington at every turn, really shouldn't be with the show as it continues. One of the keys to a good series is the bonding among characters. Season 8 dropped a bomb on just about every bond in the show - except for Ressler in his apparent love for Keen being turned into a puppy dog in his infatuation. It bordered on farce. The idea of discovering Reddington's secret - though always a presence was beaten to death and beaten to death and beaten to death in Season 8. It just became a silly fan dance that got really boring. If the season was an attempt to take risks, be edgy, emphasize female empowerment, turn the principle of the series on its head, it didn't work. It was a disaster - and if Season 9 carries on the same staggering, inebriated, careering trajectory, it surely will be the last.Peter W
