Will the 2023 Sienna have removable second row seats?

What's New

Toyota’s Sienna is now in its third production year, so this three-row crossover continues unchanged for 2023. Six trim levels stretch the price between $36,000 and almost $52,000, with a single engine and transmission choice.

Choosing Your Toyota Sienna

The Sienna range starts at $36,480 [all prices include destination] for base LE trim, rising to $51,940 for flagship Platinum. Specifying AWD varies in cost from $1,575 on LE and Limited to just $335 on XSE, Platinum, and 25th Anniversary models. LE is unique in being offered exclusively with eight seats, while XLE can be ordered with eight seats in the FWD guise as a no-cost option.

Engine Choices

Every Sienna is powered by a 2.5-liter 16-valve hybrid engine, producing 245 horsepower and 176 lb-ft of torque. It uses a CVT transmission to power either the front or all four wheels. Unusually, fuel economy in FWD models is identical in city, highway and combined usage – the magic number is 36. AWD models record fractionally lower figures.

Engine Type Horsepower Torque Fuel Economy [City/Highway/Combined]
2.5 Hybrid 245 hp 176 lb-ft

36/36/36 [FWD]

35/36/35 [AWD]

Passenger and Cargo Capacity

Cargo capacity for the seven or eight-seater Sienna stands at 33.5 cu ft with the rear seats in place, 75.2 cu ft once the third row is dropped, and 101 cubes with the second-row seats also lowered.

Safety Features

You’d expect a vehicle capable of seating eight people to major in safety, and the Sienna does a pretty good job in this regard. Ten airbags are dotted around the cabin, while Toyota’s Safety Sense 2.0 package combines road sign recognition and radar-guided cruise control with pedestrian detection and active steering assistance for lane departure alerts. LE models miss out on the front and rear parking assistance with automatic braking, while Platinum is the only model to receive a 360-degree camera system and – remarkably – rain-sensing wipers.

Connectivity

A nine-inch touchscreen is standard in the Sienna, with smartphone mirroring, satellite radio, and a six-speaker audio system. This increases to eight speakers in XLE models, while XSE buyers benefit from navigation. If you look hard enough, you’ll find seven USB ports throughout every cabin, and WiFi hotspot capabilities are also standard across the range. Limited models receive a 12-speaker JBL stereo as standard, which is available as an option from XLE upwards.

2023 Toyota Sienna LE – MSRP From $36,480

Automatic LED lights and heated power outside mirrors with blind spot warning indicators are standard external features on the most affordable Sienna. Dual power sliding side doors with privacy glass access an eight-seater cabin with eight-way power adjustment for the driver’s seat and three-zone climate, while there’s storage for up to 18 cups and bottles throughout the cabin.

The $2,300 LE Plus Package combines a power moonroof and an auto-dimming rearview mirror with wireless device charging and an upgraded eight-speaker stereo.

2023 Toyota Sienna XLE – MSRP From $41,790

There’s a lot more automation on XLE models; the side doors and liftgate open electronically, and so does the tilt/slide moonroof. The latter illuminates a cabin sporting a four-zone climate, heated front seats, and four-way power adjustment for the front passenger, while most models include sliding second-row captain’s chairs.

For $2,000, the XLE Plus Package brings wireless charging and navigation, alongside a 12-speaker JBL audio system incorporating a subwoofer and amplifier.

2023 Toyota Sienna XSE – MSRP From $44,040

The first Sienna sold as standard with navigation, XSE also brings voice control and SofTex-trimmed seats. The car rides on 20-inch wheels, with black external detailing extending from the sport mesh front grille to the outside mirror housings.

The XSE Plus Package mirrors XLE’s similarly named pack, at an easy-to-recommend $1,000. We’re less enthusiastic about the $2,715 Entertainment Package, which blends the Plus Package with an 11.6-inch 1080p screen with HDMI input, remote control, and two pairs of wireless headphones.

2023 Toyota Sienna 25th Anniversary Edition – MSRP From $47,765

Subtle differences distinguish 25th Anniversary Edition models, such as the outside mirrors incorporating puddle lights and memory. The seats are trimmed in leather and ventilated in the front, while the steering wheel is also clad in leather.

The Entertainment Package costs $1,715 on all remaining Sienna models.

2023 Toyota Sienna Limited – MSRP From $48,740

Curiously, Limited models swap the 20-inch wheels found on XSE and 25th models for smaller 18-inch rims. Chrome adorns the exterior, while inside the cabin you’ll find wireless device charging, a seven-inch information display behind the steering wheel, and a 12-speaker JBL sound system.

2023 Toyota Sienna Platinum – MSRP From $51,940

Platinum models distinguish themselves with Bi-LED projector headlights and a 360-degree surround view monitor, 20-inch wheels, and rain-sensing wipers. The second-row captain’s chairs are heated, and a ten-inch color head-up display is standard.

CarsDirect Tip

XLE models would be our choice. They’re affordably priced, generously equipped, and [uniquely] available with either seven or eight seats depending on your preference. Add the Plus Package for some welcome extra luxury.
