I have a Windows 10 pc in my office which is not under Domain. we have a SonicWall firewall system for the central firewall. My pc and wifi router is in same firewall rule.
Problem is, I can play any kind of online multiplayer games like PUBG, Modern Combat 5 etc under wifi connection. But, when I try them on my PC it can not connect to game server.
Note: If i use VPN i can play them.

- It is likely being blocked by your firewall... Using VPN to bypass the firewall means your network admin failed to block VPN access thus making your network vulnerable. 4 found this helpful thumb_up thumb_down
- Yes, I know, But I can play via wifi without any VPN. Was this post helpful? thumb_up thumb_down

Games etc shouldnt be anywhere near a work machine unless thats what you do for a business. I'm sure your management and IT agree which is why they are blocked 2 found this helpful thumb_up thumb_down

For me this would be an absolute no go! It seems your company's firewall has a different configuration for WLAN and LAN connections. That is not unusual since many companies use WLAN for direct internet access [for guests etc.]. That will be the reason your games work with WLAN and not with LAN connection. - @adrian_ych yes, i m unable to play only when i plug in to cable. Was this post helpful? thumb_up thumb_down
- ok, i have permission to play game in my system. but my system admin also unable to detect the issue. Wifi Routers and My System is in same Firewall zone. i can do everything without play the games. I have faced this problem once on my personal laptop in my home network after updating my windows 10. then i reverted back to previous build to fix it. so i think the problem is in Operating System not in SonicWall. - If I were your IT Admin - not only would it be blocked at the edge, so would your VPN. Then, every attempt to contact game systems, or circumvent our systems would be logged and reported... It is not okay to think that you can play games at work...unless you own the company [or are married to the owner] 1 of 2 found this helpful thumb_up thumb_down

I work in a company where we deal with esports agencies so the need to get online to mutliplayer games is a legitimate business one. In most companies this is not the case of course and is rightly blocked. 1 found this helpful thumb_up thumb_down

yes i did. but he also confused about it.Was this post helpful? thumb_up thumb_down

yes i did. but he also confused about it. sounds like they need to get a network engineer in to explain about how this stuff works. Mutliplayer games send a lot of UDP traffic and they'll send it to quite high port numbers so they'll need to allow outbound UDP to various ports and it can be different from game to game. 1 found this helpful thumb_up thumb_down
There are several reasons for this...1. Wifi is using another vLAN or another IP subnet [some admins set DHCP to Wifi making wifi a 2nd network]. Then this 2nd network bypass the firewall but is accidentally connected to the LAN as well. 2. They wanted to make Wifi like a guest network for Internet use only then accidentally connected to the network. 3. They created another subnet for the wifi [DHCP etc] then set firewall to open "all-to-all" for these IP range. 4. Wifi backbone cables end in DMZ instead of LAN [plugged in wrongly] 1 found this helpful thumb_up thumb_down
