If I wanted to play music on my local machine while connected to a remote machine, will the remote machine play the sounds from my local computer?

Yeah, maybe with a bluetooth gizmo.
Or a data transfer cable between the 2.

Stardock has a neat little app called Acoustic Bridge for this. And that feature is also part of Stardock's Multiplicity.

I guess what I wanted to know was whether Windows remote desktop connection alone transmits sounds from my local machine to my remote machine [my work machine], not the other way around.

Are you asking if the remote computer is sitting there making noises while you connect to it from home? No.

So you have a remote desktop session from your home machine to your work machine and you want to know if you can hear your home machine while you're logged in locally to your work machine while that session is up? In which case, the answer is no. But if you were to do a remote desktop session from your work machine to your home machine, you could.

Rdp allows for audio transfer from host to remote. I believe teamviewer also supports this. It doesn't work in reverse

LOL but the OP didn't say he wants to bring the whole desktop to the remote PC including the display, and redirected drives and log out that user account on the host. RDP is appropriate for that.

Why would you need to do this? You want the PC you're sitting at to pipe its audio to the computer you're remoting into? I can't even begin to see the point...

He didn't mention that he didn't want to bring the whole desktop over, he did ask if it supported being able to bring audio over. Unless I am reading this wrong.

I read it more as OP is wanting to listen to music, but is worried that it would be relayed to the remote computer with realising; not that the remote computer playing the audio as being the intended outcome.
