NFL: Who Are the Top 5 Teams in the NFC?0 of 5 Show
Kevin C. Cox/Getty Images Now that we’re at the half way point of the NFL season, has there really been enough time to dissect each team and determine who the best one is? I believe, yes, and that’s exactly what I will do. The NFC has been really intriguing to me this year as opposed to the AFC because there are so many close teams and very few standouts. Almost every team still has playoff hopes in my opinion, excluding Dallas and Carolina. So who has stood out? #5. New York Giants1 of 5 Eli Manning leads this high powered offenseOtto Greule Jr/Getty Images To me, this is a classic example of a fast starting team that really isn’t all that good. A lot of people are really high on the Giants because of the way they have been beating their opponents. They have a point differential of 56 which is the second highest in the NFC; they are undefeated in conference and division play so what’s not to love? Well, let’s start with the fact that they’ve beaten the Bears, Texans, Lions, Cowboys and Seahawks respectively. That is by no means an impressive resume. Granted, they just beat Seattle easily by 34 on the road which does show that they are not to be taken lightly. The Giants WILL make the playoffs though because of their remaining schedule, the only teams that pose a threat are the Eagles (both home and away), and the Packers. Even though it may seem like I’m bagging on the Giants, which I am to some extent, I still think they are top five in their conference, just not the best. #4. Philadelphia Eagles2 of 5
Michael Vick may be in contention for MVP this seasonJim McIsaac/Getty Images To me, one of the most exciting teams to watch in the NFL is the Philadelphia Eagles. This is in most part because of their fast paced style of play that stems from Michael Vick and Desean Jackson essentially running around everyone. Looking at the difficulty of the remaining schedules, it’s possible that the Eagles won’t even win that division even though I have them ranked higher. A healthy Eagles team with Michael Vick as their starting quarterback is an elite team. Kevin Kolb has started in five games this year and won two of them. I believe that if Vick was the quarterback during those games, the Eagles would have a better record as of now. When Vick has played, nobody has been able to touch him and the victory over the Colts this last week proved that. Not only did Vick rack up 74 rush yards with a rush touchdown, he outplayed Peyton Manning in my opinion by recording another TD through the air and throwing for over 200 yards. The Eagles have looked a bit shaky at times, but watch out for them when they are healthy. #3. New Orleans Saints3 of 5 Reggie Bush hopes to come back and take his team back to the superbowl.Ezra Shaw/Getty Images Again, many people may not agree with me on this, but I love the Saints this year. They haven’t shown much of their true talent thus far, but I really believe they will pick it up during the second half of the season and show how good they really are. Let’s not forget, it was only last year that they won the super bowl and they still have all their big pieces with them this year. They are 6-3 so far and have played without two huge players in Reggie Bush and Pierre Thomas for many weeks. Once those guys get healthy, this team will be a huge threat to everyone in the league. In their next four games, they play Seattle, Dallas, Cincinnati and St. Louis and I expect them to win all four. #2. Green Bay Packers4 of 5 Aaron Rogers is proving he's one of the best.Jonathan Daniel/Getty Images The Packers have had to overcome so much this year it’s unbelievable. Their injury list could fill an entire expansion team and it includes players like Driver, Grant, Finley and some defensive studs. Yet, they are 6-3 and are atop a division in which they should win with no problems. All three of their losses have been by 3 points and two of those were in OT. Aaron Rogers is proving that he is one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL and it doesn’t really matter who he is throwing to because he will help them perform. They do have a little bit of a tough schedule remaining, but after their absolute dismantling of the Cowboys, I’m not worried. #1. Atlanta Falcons5 of 5 Matty Ice has been phenomenal thus farKevin C. Cox/Getty Images Really? You think that the Falcons are better then all those other teams? Yeah, I do, and it wasn’t even a hard decision. Their only two losses have been to Pittsburgh in Pittsburgh by six and at Philadelphia. They beat New Orleans already this year and looked impressive against everyone else. Michael Turner is showing that he is an elite running back and he’s averaging 4.5 yards per carry which is very impressive. Matt Ryan has been phenomenal to me and has been amazing both home and away. He’s showing that he is a great leader and I believe he’ll lead them to the NFC South title and beyond.
