Sự khác nhau giữa percent và percentage:

- percent - per hundred: có thể được viết ra hoặc thể hiện bằng ký hiệu%, luôn được kết hợp với một số cụ thể

Ví dụ: The maximum error that can be introduced by over-mixing is 10% (percent). (Sai số tối đa có thể gây ra do trộn quá nhiều là 10%.)

- percentage: được sử dụng để chỉ mối quan hệ chung chung chứ không phải là một thước đo cụ thể.

Ví dụ: A large percentage of the people voted, but only 20 percent of the votes counted. (Một tỷ lệ lớn người dân đã bỏ phiếu, nhưng chỉ có 20 phần trăm số phiếu được kiểm.)

1. SỬ DỤNG SỐ - CÁCH CƠ BẢN NHẤT

Bạn gọi tên chính xác những số liệu, giá trị, phần trăm được cho sẵn trong biểu đồ, bảng… Bạn cần lưu ý nắm được cách đọc đúng các hàng đơn vị trong số.

Số nhỏ hơn 10 viết bằng chữ, lớn hơn 10 viết bằng số.

Ví dụ:

• Five percent of the employees were late this month.
• More than 50 percent of the students handed in their assignments late after the long weekend.

Trong trường hợp số đứng đầu câu thì bạn cần viết bằng chữ.

Ví dụ:

• 25 students were from China. → SAI
• Twenty-five students were from China. → ĐÚNG

• Two hundreds units of the ice cream sold weekly are blueberry flavored.
• Four hundreds of the ice cream cups sold in the school were vanilla flavored.

Six hundreds units of chocolate flavoured ice cream were sold.

Một số từ vựng có thể đi kèm với từ “percent” là:

• dropped by 10%
• fall at 50%
• reached to 75%
• tripled/ doubled/ one-fourth/ three-quarters/ half/ double fold/ treble/ 5 times higher/ 3 timers lower

Ví dụ:

• 50% of all ice cream sold were chocolate flavored.
• 33% of the ice cream sales were the vanilla flavored option.
• 17% of the school’s ice cream cup sales represented those flavored blueberry.

Trong trường hợp “of” có nghĩa là “taken from”, bạn có thể sử dụng một số phrase như sau:
