I have both but but really haven't compared sharpness because that's overrated. Both are sharp enough but I would give the edge to the Tamron G2 if I had to say. I do like the rendering of the Tamron better and use the 2.8 for events but love the range of the 24-105 and sometimes carry that alone. It also makes a nice travel combo with the 100-400, covering the range from 24-400.

Tamron G2 is better, that can rival to Sony FE 24-70/2.8 GM II. Despite I really like it, I sold weeks ago to prepare the new Sony FE 20-70 G that line-up better if I carried these lenses - 14 GM, 20-70 G, 70-200 GM II while leave 16-35 PZ at home, as I plan to do in Africa trip in August, among two more lenses and total 3 cameras to carry, CV 15 and 200-600 G.

Tamron G2 @35mm/F2.8 vs 24-105 @35mm/F4.0

Tamron G2 @75/F2.8 vs 24-105 @70mm/F4.0

Center sharpness is better on the 28-75 G2 at all times. The 24-105 is marginally cleaner in the corners at f/4 compared to the 28-75 at f/2.8 at the same focal lengths. Stop the 28-75 down to f/4 and corners match the 24-105.

Thanks for all the replies, it seems the tamron is sharper as was expected but is it noticeably\significantly sharper?

I like the range of the sony 24-105 but i have to do a lot of work in post with it, i almost always need to increase exposure, brightness, contrast and make it warmer and more saturated in post. Its sharpness is good for a super zoom but doesnt satisfy the pixel peeper in me.

What about 35-150 from tamron? Too tight on wide?

I have two of the 35-150 and I would definitely recommend, both on its own merits and as a split-the-baby between the 28-75 and the 24-105; you get the reach of the latter while gaining the optics of the former.

If weight is a factor, then just go for the 28-75 and use Super-35 mode for more reach; while I always prefer more reach, sacrificing image quality isn't a thing I want to do if it isn't necessary. Also, the 24-105 is a couple of hundred dollars more than the 28-75, and for those prices, I'd just go for the latter.
