Click to re-position the arrow grip somewhere higher on the screen (within the table). You should see the table overflow into new columns to the right.

The distance that you defined by re-positioning the arrow will be the new length for this table. So as new rows are added to the table, once the table reaches that defined length it will overflow once more into a third column.

Displaying The Labels In The Table Breaks:

Once these table breaks have been applied, you can add the descriptive top area of the table that is shown in the first rows of the table. This will help clarify what the second column is in the third table break for instance.

The first 2 rows of the table are called “Labels” and can be designated as a “Header” or “Title.” (These are defined in the Table Style manager). The important thing to know is that if both a “Title” and “Header” are defined, they are BOTH considered a label and will be repeated.

To turn on the repeating labels:

• Select the Table
• Right-Click and select “Properties” to open the properties palette

• In the properties palette, scroll down to the “Table Breaks” section
• Change “Enabled” to “Yes”
• Change “Repeat top labels” to “Yes”
• The result should be a repeated “Label” in the Table Breaks

I always create my tables using Microsoft Excel. I then usually just copy the cell range in excel I want to show in autocad, copy, and then "paste special" in autocad as an excel spreadsheet.

Then when i send my drawings out to the customer I etransmit all the files to a zip folder including the original excel document with all the information in case they don't have autocad but want to change the content of the table, itself.

The only problem with doing it this way is that after you insert the excel spreadsheet you can't edit it. If you double click on the inserted excel spreadsheet in autocad, it will create a NEW excel document that you would need to edit anyway and then reinsert with autocad. Hence, you can only change the table by editing it in excel and then re-inserting it. Autocad doesn't really treat attached excel spreadsheets like XREF's. Where you can edit the original file and it will be changed in the drawing. This is the only down side.

But it does save a little bit of hastle. I just find excel much easier to use than autocad when it comes to doing tables for things like as-built electrical circuit layouts. You just have to be sure that the excel document is correct before you insert it.

I have an issue with the "repeat top labels" part of a table in AutoCAD. I can't get the top labels to repeat when I shorten the table to create two tables side by side.

As always, any help is appreciated.

I have attached the basic non-frilled files. The excel file and the autocad(software version 2012...dwg version 2007).

Ok, so I created a table from the "Insert table" dialogue box. When I use "From a Data Link" I lose the options for the "Set cell styles". When I "Start from empty table" I can "repeat the top labels".

How does one use the "From a Data Link" and still have the "repeat the top labels" available?

Never messed with that option and I don't have access to autocad at the moment, if I can I will look tonight when I get to my (other) office.

How do you repeat top labels in AutoCAD?

Select the table and enter PROPERTIES. In the Properties palette, verify that Repeat top labels is set to Yes. Click on one of the cells in the rows to repeat. In the Properties palette, change Row style to either Title or Header.

Inserting Data Automatically: After entering a date or numeric value into a cell, drag the AutoFill grip to automatically increment values in adjacent table cells. AutoCAD automatically increments numbers by 1 and dates by 1 day if only one cell is selected and dragged.
