I have a Windows 10 machine which I remote desktop connect to often. In it current configuration I am able to initiate a Remote Desktop Session with the following platforms:

    1. My Windows 8 Phone
    2. My Ubuntu Desktop (Using Remmina)

The problem is isolated to my Windows 8.1 PC. I have verified the following:

    • Remote connections are allowed on the remote PC
    • The remote PC is authorized to allow any PC to log on
    • The remote PC is powered on

    Ref:http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/remote-desktop-app-faq#1TC=windows-8

    I also tried going to:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Terminal Server Client\Default

in the registry to clear the cache'd log ins as well. I also deletedDefault.rpdin my Documents as well.

    Problem:

When I try to log in to the Windows 10 machine, the connection is established but the login is not being accepted (keep in mind I used this login using RDP on my Windows Phone and my Ubuntu PC). For some reason it does not accept my password.

    Any ideas?

Do you mean you cannot log on after you connect to target PC?

-Correct, the RDP makes a connection. When I enter my credentials they are not recognized

If it does, I would like to know whether you are use a local account or domain account in the target PC.

-It is a domain account, not a local account (keep in mind I can log in from Ubuntu and my Windows Phone just fine)

Have you changed your password recently?

-Yes, when I went from a local to domain account

Firstly, please check the remote settings by following the link below.

Please Note: Since the website is not hosted by Microsoft, the link may change without notice. Microsoft does not guarantee the accuracy of this information.

Secondly, if you are signing onto a machine local account, try to use the machine name and a backslash before the username. If you are using a domain account, try to add domain name before username.

-It is a domain account (RDP seems to detect it), note the Microsoft\ domain is already added

    Then check the issue.

For another possibility, you havent added the user to the remote desktop users group. In the host PC, just right click This PC > Manage > Groups > Remote Desktop Users > Add.

If it still doesnt work, you would better to change the account password for test due to we have found an issue which similar to yours and it has been solved by changing password.

-I will try the local account instead and follow up

    Good luck to fix it.
