How to sync messages from iPhone to iPhone

Let’s see today, how to transfer text messages or iMessages from your old device to the new one. There are two ways to transfer your messages to the new device.

Using iCloud Backup

iCloud is the most common way to transfer any data using the backup. Please follow below steps for transfer messages from old to new iPhone:

1. Connect your old device with Wi-Fi.
2. Go to Setting -> Your Name -> iCloud then Scroll down and tap on iCloud Backup.
3. Tap on Backup Now option and wait until backup process finished.
4. Now start your new/other iPhone (for other iPhone, must reset from Setting -> General -> Reset) and follow on screen instruction up to restore page.
5. Tap on “Restore from iCloud Backup” and wait until restore process finished.
6. Now you can see that all your messages are restored in Message app.

Using iCloud Sync

In this way you can transfer message using sync:

1. Make sure that login with same iCloud account on both devices.
2. Connect your old device with Wi-Fi.
3. Go to Setting -> Your Name -> iCloud then Scroll down and enable toggle of “Messages”.
4. Wait for sync process.
5. Now on second iPhone do the same process as above and wait for sync.
6. After some time, your messages will appear in your message app.

Using iTunes

In this way you can transfer message using iTunes app from Mac/Windows/Linux pc:

1. Connect your old device to computer with USB and open iTunes.
2. Select your device from top left and choose Summary tab.
3. In Backups section select this computer and press “Back Up Now”.
4. Once this process is finished unplug old device and plug new device with pc.
5. Go to iTunes, select your device, select Summary and just click on “Restore Backup”.
6. Now scroll down to Advance menu and select “Contacts” in ‘Replace information on this iPhone’.
7. Select your backup that you have created and press restore.
8. After process finished you can check that all your messages are appear into iMessage app.

Method 2. Transfer Messages to a New iPhone

If you have a new iPhone and want to get all of your messages from the old iPhone to the new one, you can sync your new iPhone with the latest iCloud backup. But there are some prerequisites to use this method. 

• Make sure your iCloud has enough storage space on your new iPhone. Otherwise, the messages that exceed the storage limits won't sync to your new iPhone.
• Keep your old iPhone in charge and connect it to a stable and reliable Wi-Fi network.

If everything gets ready, you can follow these steps to transfer messages to a new iPhone via iCloud backup.

Step 1. Turn on your new iPhone.

iTunes is also a good option to transfer messages between the iPhones. The steps are very similar to iCloud. First, you need to make a backup of your old iPhone content via iTunes, then restore your new iPhone from the iTunes backup. This may replace all data on the destination device with files you synced from iTunes. If you don't mind it, just follow the detailed steps to do it.

Step 1. Connect your old iPhone to the computer via a USB cable and launch iTunes.
