Will 2023 Odyssey have AWD?

The Honda Odyssey is arguably not the most desirable minivan you can buy right now. It recently lost its segment-exclusive, built-in vacuum and still doesn’t offer all-wheel drive or a hybrid variant like the Toyota Sienna and Chrysler Pacifica, both of which are ahead in terms of Canadian sales.

Speaking of sales, the Odyssey is currently neck and neck with the brand new Kia Carnival, a boldly styled minivan that wants to pass for an SUV. As we wait to see what the next chapter will be like, Honda is adding a new model with a little bit more character for 2023.

Called Sport in the U.S. and Black Edition in Canada, this darker-looking Odyssey gets the same treatment as similar versions of the CR-V, Pilot and Ridgeline. The grille, headlight trim, fog light surrounds, door mirrors, B-pillar, C-pillar and taillight trim all feature a gloss-black finish. The rear spoiler and 19-inch wheels are also black, while darkened taillights complete the exterior look.

By the way, three body colours are available including Platinum White Pearl, Crystal Black Pearl and Sonic Grey Pearl, the last one a first-time offering on the Odyssey.

Inside, black leather with sporty red contrast stitching covers the steering wheel along with the first- and second-row outboard seats. The roof pillars and headliner are also black, so you better not be claustrophobic despite the generous space. At night, the interior glows red with accent lighting on the dash, in the driver and passenger footwells, and in the front door handles and door pockets.

The Odyssey Black Edition is the new top-line model, slotting above the Touring. Highlights include acoustic glass for the windshield and side doors, hands-free power liftgate, heated/cooled front seats, navigation, rear-seat entertainment system, 11-speaker audio unit and Wi-Fi hot spot.

As is the case with every other Odyssey, the engine is a 3.5-litre V6 producing 280 horsepower through a 10-speed automatic transmission, while the whole suite of Honda Sensing advanced safety features is included as standard.

The 2023 Honda Odyssey is now on sale at Canadian dealers with a base MSRP of $45,590. The Black Edition retails from $58,590, or nearly two grand above the Touring. Even for that kind of money, you still don’t get AWD, remember.

The 2023 Honda Odyssey debuts an exciting new Sport trim as it continues to evolve the capabilities that make it America’s ultimate family vehicle. Odyssey’s first-ever Sport trim offers unique styling inside and out for a sportier, more emotional appearance. Odyssey also introduces the new Honda Service Pass, a new complimentary service plan that offers purchasers of 2023 Honda vehicles select scheduled maintenance performed at a participating Honda dealership for 2 years or 24,000 miles, whichever comes first. Arriving at dealerships starting May 23, prices for the 2023 Odyssey EX start at $37,340 (not including $1,295 destination and handling charge).

"The new Odyssey Sport will help Odyssey continue to set the standard for minivans in family-friendly features, interior space and sporty driving performance," said Mike Kistemaker, assistant vice president, Honda national sales, American Honda Motor Co., Inc. "Odyssey Sport brings more expressive styling to a product our customers have already made America’s retail best-selling minivan since 2010."

Slotting between Odyssey EX-L and Touring, the new Odyssey Sport stands out with its darkened taillights, stylish Berlina Black 19-inch wheels and abundance of gloss black exterior trim. The grille, headlight trim, fog light surrounds, door mirrors, B-pillar, C-pillar and taillight trim all feature a gloss-black finish.

Inside, black leather with sporty red contrast stitching covers the steering wheel and first and second row outboard seats. The roof pillars and headliner are also black, and the interior glows red at night with accent lighting on the dash, in the driver and passenger footwells, and in the front door handles and door pockets.

Odyssey Sport is available in Platinum White Pearl, Crystal Black Pearl and Radiant Red Metallic exterior colors. Moreover, Sonic Gray Pearl is available for the first time on Odyssey, including the Sport, Touring and Elite grades.

The new Sport trim is well equipped, sharing the generous feature content of Odyssey EX-L, which includes a one-touch power moonroof with tilt feature, power tailgate with programmable height and an 8-way power adjustable front passenger seat. All 2023 Odysseys feature a proven 280 HP (SAE net @ 6,000 rpm) V6 engine, smooth-shifting 10-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters and the full suite of Honda Sensing® safety and driver-assistive features, including Adaptive Cruise Control with Low-Speed Follow, and Pedestrian Emergency Braking.

Odyssey’s exclusive Magic Slide™ second-row seats fold nearly flat, making them easier to remove, enhancing cargo-carrying options. Also standard is a Rear Seat Reminder system that can be integrated with the available CabinWatch® child viewing system. Odyssey was the first to introduce minivan innovations such as third-row seats that fold into the floor.

Adding value and peace of mind for Honda buyers, Honda Service Pass1 helps lower the cost of owning Honda vehicles. Offered to purchasers of eligible 2023 Honda models, the new scheduled maintenance plan covers select services indicated in the vehicle’s Maintenance Minder system during the plan’s active time period2 and performed at a participating Honda dealership. These services include standard oil and filter changes, tire rotation, and multi-point inspections.

The 2023 Honda Odyssey is made exclusively at Honda’s Lincoln, Ala. auto plant*, alongside Pilot, Passport and Ridgeline. Its V6 engine also is manufactured in Alabama, with the 10-speed automatic transmission manufactured exclusively at Honda’s Tallapoosa, Ga. facility.

Does Honda make an AWD Odyssey?

That said, the Odyssey only comes with front-wheel drive. If you want the added confidence of all-wheel drive, the Chrysler Pacifica and Toyota Sienna are worth a look.

Does Honda Odyssey have AWD 2022?

Every Odyssey is powered by the same familiar 3.5-liter Honda V-6 that develops 280 hp and 262 lb-ft of torque. Unlike the Sienna and Pacifica, no hybrid option is available and neither is AWD; all Odysseys route power through the front wheels with help from a 10-speed automatic transmission.

Why is Honda Odyssey not AWD?

With the Odyssey, Honda doesn't want to mess with success. “When you add AWD to a model, it affects packaging and fuel efficiency, two of the Odyssey's great strengths versus the competition,” Martin said in an email message.

Will the Honda Odyssey be redesigned in 2023?

As mentioned above, the 2023 Honda Odyssey redesign provides affordable access to some truly incredible amenities. Highlights of the 2023 rendition include: LED headlights. Magic Slide® 2nd-row seats.
